Nearby Ashe County has a population of 26,957, and the county seat is Jefferson. The town of West Jefferson is known for its many art studios and annual Christmas in July celebration. You might be surprised, but the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina offer high elevations, lots of snow (both natural and man-made), and plenty of skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing! Slopes are generally open from mid November – March with both natural and man-made snow.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is called America’s Favorite Drive. Millions of visitors enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway each year. But it is more than just a pretty drive. There are places to hike, bike, camp and many things to see including waterfalls, historical sites as well as arts and culture.
